Honeydew / Mental / Games
Today: new copy of broken movie made, 2nd call in to doctor made (and came up snake eyes, again), Xmas lights hung out side, trip to the store for more lights and diner stuff, returned/removed lights/rehung lights (and just got bright idea about how to handle the one place I couldn't, which means going out and rehanging a section AGAIN), and somewhere in there, I got some food.

In other news, Jessica's headaches continue. Yes, the sinus stuff, etc., finally went away, and now we're down to just the normal headache. Lost track of how long it's been in place. Seems to be less while she's gone, but comes back when she gets home. Something in the house, I dunno. Mold in the crawlspace, maybe? Not much I can do about that. Hoped steam-cleaning the carpets would help, but it appears to be no improvement. It's really preying on me. Just feel so helpless about it. Anyway, just needed to vent that out.

Enjoyed Torchlight, but hit the monotony wall. Since Jessica went back to World of Warcraft, I decided to give Champions Online a go. Not bad, lots of nifty stuff in the costume creator and the graphics are pretty, and the open areas are cool. Nice to not automatically know where every enemy is gonna spawn. On the other hand, I know no one over there, and if I'm-a get back to superhero MMO'ing, I might as well return to City of Heroes. Still undecided, we'll see; there are pluses and minuses to both. If I do return, I'll pay for it instead of dealing with the crippled F2P model. Guys, any of Team Awesome or my other runnin' dawgs still doin' it? (P.S. Vent can still eat me.)

have you checked all the window frames and curtains for mildew?

and of COURSE I am still running in City. LOTS of new content all over the place. And I have a new group of guys that I run with whom you will like very much, I am confident (sense of humor is collectively in line with both of ours, general attitudes on life are very similar, just generally good guys... and they are all about skype). I would LOVE IT if you came back to city. They even gave a little attention to bases. They only made editing easier (a LOT easier), but it gives me hope that there will be more in the not as distant as we feared future.

I was actually considering coming back and saying nothing, checking it out before I decided to stick with it, but, eh, what the Hell. I like CO, it's damn pretty, and there are a couple things I like better than CoH, but knowing peeps in-game is a big draw. We'll see.

I went back to Torchlight about a year later, and enjoyed it again. Skipped the main plotline and just did scroll dungeons and the crypts, found it a good distraction. Mostly i did it to get ready for torchlight 2, but that got delayed.

CoH is "free" to play, and if you have a lot of veteran time, you get some stuff free automatically. However, the features that are pay only are somewhat necessary. Check it out, see what happened. I decided not to go back because my old guild/group isn't playing it anymore. It's a social game, as you well know.

I still like Torchlight, it's good "kill time" fun, but after 6 years of MMO's, it feels so light, y'know? i'll keep it installed, though.

As for CoH, have about 3 1/2 years of vet time on the account, but looking at what's crippled on the F2P mode, having been there before, I'd miss it. The social aspect is a big part of why I'm not enjoying CO as much, but after a couple years of WoW, i'm also used to having less people on. Having your crew to run with and talk to makes all the difference, to be sure.

The social aspect is key, I've found. It has to be a really awesome online game for me to play solo.

Were you a big fan of Diablo 2? I got into the Diablo 3 beta, and dear god. I will spend so much time on that game!

Diablo bored me, really. I never played 2, though, and have no idea about 3.
freyisfreyis on December 21st, 2011 02:21 am (UTC)
2 was a vast improvement over 1, and 3 seems to be the same, from what I have seen in the beta. I'm looking forward to some solid co-op gaming with it. Surprised you weren't into 2, what with Torchlight.

Just never tried D2; who knows, might have liked it.
freyisfreyis on December 21st, 2011 12:21 am (UTC)
for Torchlight, there is an excellent mod for it that really helps the game have a longer lifespan.

I've been enjoying city of heroes being f2p, though not having access to inventions is kind of annoying. However, I can buy access to them for $2 a month, and since I'm nowhere near the level cap, I don't need access to the incarnate stuff. I do plan to someday make it there though, as it looks like a lot of fun. Which server did you play on?

I don't know if you are interested at all, but I and a bunch of others are having an absolute blast with SWTOR. If you've played/enjoyed other Bioware games, it's got the best of all their games, IMO, mixed into a very well polished MMO environment.

- I have a couple diff mods on TL, and it''s nice that they allow that kind of customization.

- In my heyday, I had multiple characters on all servers, something like 55 different toons. If/when i come back, I'm sure I'll do a major cull of them, but I had at least 12 at top level.

- I grew up as a SW kid, but oddly enough, SWTOR doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as I'd thought it would. Another factor is that even though I know several peopel in it, the three hour ime difference would make it difficult to get any real playtime with them. I dunno, we'll see.
freyisfreyis on December 21st, 2011 02:22 am (UTC)
Whoa, 12 at top level? You definitely played more than I did. I think my highest is a ninja blade/ninjutsu stalker at 35.

Ah yes, time zone differences do make it difficult. I remember for a while I was playing WC3 custom maps with someone in Egypt, and it was the oddest hours where our gaming times synced up.

Yeah, I played a LOT. That's part of why I dropped out of it, was that i felt like I'd seen it all and done it all. Now that I've been gone for a couple years, I shouldn't be so burned out on it.
freyisfreyis on December 21st, 2011 11:26 pm (UTC)
Just got the time to read through some of those bios, nice creative characters you have there :). My favorite of mine thematically is my robot/traps mastermind. The nefarious Cap'n Metal Beard and his crew of robo space pirates.

While some aspects of f2p for it are lame (i really wish, as a previous paying customer, that i had permanent access to the invention system), i do like the rate at which they've been adding content lately, especially new power sets. I went ahead and bought the Titan weapon one, and even at low levels it is so much fun!

City of heroes is an odd game for me, as every time I play it I really enjoy it, but I always forget about it afterwards. Once I get myself started I'll play for hours, but I never seem to remember that it's an option. Probably because no one I know plays anymore.

My old running buds and I made a wiki for ourselves (that link), but i never got around to finishing all my character entries. I loved coming up with backstories for my characters. I also really love the bases that can be built. I used to spend days logged in, working on bases. Check soem of them out here. Now that I'm back in, i need to take control back of a couple of my supergroups.

I plan on buying the new powersets (400 points a ,month for paying players, nice touch!). Right now, I started a new pistol blaster to check out Praetoria. My global handle is @Archmage Chaos.

If you do come back to City, please consider giving Repeat Offenders a try. AWESOME group of people, very low drama. Knowledgeable and fun to team with.

I may do that. I notice that the LJ channel is downright dead now, what happened?

I also see that they gave everyone the Fitness pool for free, which means I need to respec all my toons that chose it, as they have extra choices now. I did it yesterday on my main with the wild build, took forever...I'm thinking it's time to do a cull of my toons, dump a bunch of the projects and dead team-made ones.

Also made my main unlock his Alpha slot, and been doing WWD. Nifty stuff, and the Ultra graphics made it look damn nice. All in all, it's pretty good to be back.
Kellykwsapphire on December 24th, 2011 01:08 pm (UTC)
I wasn't aware that the LJ chan is dead, I left about 2 years ago. I was tired of the drama, and of having my excitement being misinterpreted as anger, which people would then use as an excuse to start more drama. I still watch the LJ community, though with very little participation. RO is low drama, highly skilled, great at teamwork, supportive, shares information, and lots of fun. Some people don't get along (myself and one in particular, but global ignore has solved that) but it's still very low drama, esp when compared to LJ. there are some pretty amazing steamroll teams and lots of dingfests :]

Next thursday & Friday night we're going to attempt a run through all the iTrials on Freedom if you have a L50 you'd like to bring.

Not sure if you were here for gleemail but you can now send emails to global names with up to one attachment (enh, recipe, etc), up to 20 items total, plus inf. Makes trading between toons easier.

LJ: We Know Drama™ - yeah, no surprise there. Still, i used to know so many people there, but for three days now, no one has said ANYTHING. Maybe it's just slow for the holidays, etc.

Definitely will look into RO, later. Sounds nice. No 50 on Freedom, sadly, but good luck for your run.
