Just finished watching "Firefly"...and yes, allow me to join the rest of you FF fanboys in drooling over the impending film. Fuckin' Hell, that was an incredible's hoping that the film does so well that the networks want him to come back and do more of it on TV, eh?

*drools over impending film* I HOPE some network decides they want to put it back on the air *crosses fingers*

Not likely -- Joss Whedon has said repeatedly that he will never take the show back to TV because of how badly he got screwed by the networks.

I still don't know why the hell it was cancelled in the first place. If people weren't watching, they had only to promote it some... because it was AWESOME.

Short cynical version: because there was too much story and not enough action. The network wanted an action space sci-fi show, not this emotional family-esque drama that happened to have space ships in it. I think they were disillusioned by the lack of robots, aliens, and lasers. And, sadly, so was the bulk of the American viewing public, who didn't grok why a space opera had cattle and old-style pistols.

Actually, it's worse than that-- too diverse of a viewing audience. They didn't lack numbers, they lacked a core focus group for their advertisers. So rather than make an attempt to appeal to a variety, or used broad spectrum commercials, they dropped it. Much the same reason why other shows were dropped over the years.

Yeah, because Goddess forbid,/i> you make a good show without thinking of how someone's gonna sell something unrelated to it to people.

Bah. The day the advertising became more important than the entertainment, that was the day I stopped watching TV. Yeah, I understand how it works, and I know it's inevitable...but it still sucks. I'd rather pay for damn good entertainment than get shit for free, but that's just me.

I still remember a comment that someone said they wouldn't be surprised to hear an exec saying "this would make a great TV series" after seeing the movie.

Yeah, some one in the "making of" featurette said that (can't recall who, now). Sad as that is, it would be nice...but I fear they would want the same things as the first group, which is why it was cancelled. I doubt Joss Whedon would let it get co-opted for ratings.

Sadly, from what I've read, there is very little chance of another TV series. There are, however, theoretical plans for two more movies. Frankly, I'd rather have the series.

Me too...but I'll take what I can get, at this point.

My dear, beautiful Blue, I wouldn't dream of forgetting you. I meant the term in only the most general of senses, knowing that there are such special ladies as yourself that are counted among the elite.

*meekly raises hand* I'm a closet FF fangirl, can I join?

Okay, maybe not a closet fangirl anymore, but I loved the show. I fought through the crowds at Suncoast to get our set when it came out. Oh yes, that was fun, to have my already aching feet stepped on.

I have to wonder if we'll be like the Star Wars fans and line up to see the movie or if they'll play a horrible trick and release it direct to dvd.
