So, interesting addendum to last night's power issue with Di's computer...about 1:30am, I had gotten up to get some water, and I gave her machine a try...and it booted right up. No problems.

?!?

Any thoughts, anyone with hardware knowledge?

So the power supply is faulty, not dead. Doesn't make it any happier. :/

That's what I'm thinking. At least power supples are cheap to replace.

I've got a machine here that came from the manufacturer with electrical problems. You go to turn it own, and the power switch does nothing. Hit the power bar it feeds from off and on a couple times, and then it boots up. Faulty wiring it sounds like...

I'm going to lean towards the power supply failing instead of just doing an imitation of a brick. It will still need to be replaced, and can be done so for fairly little money nowadays, any basic 350W or 400W power supply will do as long as the system isn't heavily stressed. If you can find one in the $30 to $50 range, give it a try and see if it helps.

That's my thoughts, too. Maybe I'll take a little trip down to CompUSA this afternoon.

I had similar problems with a laptop...The battery was wornout...So the powersupply thing makes sense to me...
Although now I'm having a different problem with the stupid thing...its an old Gateway...Solo5150 from like 1999
