Harmful Books? Only To Those That Would Control You
Amusing...seems a conservative website had "a panel of 15 conservative scholars and public policy leaders" help them compile a list of what they consider to be the "10 Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries". Funny, isn't it, how any group that wants to "prove a point" can gather together a group of people to prove it...assuming they gather those people that follow their way of thinking. That's not fact, friends, that's just another babbling cult.

As you can expect, this list contains some of the biggest names/titles in philosophical and governmental writings, all the types and styles of literature that encourage you to think and question instead of blindly following...or, at the very least, acquaint you with what a lunatic sounds like, so you'll stop listening to (and electing) them. I tend to agree with maxomai, this should be required reading. Hell, I'm pretty certain I own most of these.

Remember, no matter what anyone tells you, it's your world, too. You should have a say in it...and you can't have a say until you learn how to speak. At the same time, you have to remember, everyone else has a say, too.

Oh FFS. An honourable mention for "On Liberty"? HAHAHA! Have they READ it? I think not.

Nutters who want to control us all. Great. I'm not scared and I'm not burning my Philosophy books.

Mr. Demon says "Are they scared of books that they can't form decent arguments against?". Exactly.

Mr. Demon says "Are they scared of books that they can't form decent arguments against?". Exactly.

They're too busy trying to control our minds to come up with any decent arguments for WHY they are doing anything.

So basically do not read these books b/c we have sad that they are harmful and wrong. If you actually read these books with your brain engaged you might decide that we are harmful and wrong. Oh the Horror. So what next are they going to try to get them banned or just hold local book burnings. I hate this kind of crap.

Those Fucking Liberals and their Seatbelts are dragging this country into Communism!!!

Interesting to see what a pretty distantly right wing site like that would list. Their comments for several of the books are, of course, extraordinarily biased and misleading. :) But it's funny to see how hung up they are on communism as an "evil" thing.

I generally agree, of course, that calling any books "harmful" is a dangerous way to talk about them. Supressing knowledge and/or speech is rarelly, if ever, a wise thing to do. And in this case, the only real "damage" of half those books is their association with communism. :p

I really hate how the try to sew Liberalism and Anti-Americanism together.

This list is a good find though. Keep up the good work Sherlock.

Especially since, if you really look at it, this country was founded and made to progress by Liberal thinking.

While I can see how most of these ended up on this list, if only from a Devil's Advocate point of view on most of them, what the hell did Freud do to deserve this? Ok.. so he got a few things wrong, but what doctor didn't? And his approach - right or wrong - is a hell of a lot better than some of the things that were done as treatment before he came around. I can't even fathom the reasoning behind this one.

Because, Freud talked about...*GASP*...sex! And science! And we all know how those sorts of "evils" are tearing the country apart, and turning us away form "traditional family values".

Ok... that's just pushing it. Even from the Devi's advocate stand point.

Heh, nothing sells books faster than someone saying they're not good for you and you shouldn't read them. Stupid fuckers.

That's not fact, friends, that's just another babbling cult. Isn't that the same as the Catholics? The Vatican has the largest collection of "banned" books, and the "real Necronomicon". All sealed in a vault. Come to think of it, the Necronomicon was "stolen" in the 60's, never to be seen again. Isn't this about the same as the What is porn question? All matter of opinion.

good gawd. Nietzsche, Mead and Compte?

I'll be sure to add those that I haven't already read to my "to read" list, and that includes the honorable mentions.

These sheeple don't recognize the power and importance of broadening the mind.

"this is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause."
