Gooooood Morning

The first solar sail spacecraft, went into space yesterday. It was atop a converted Russian ICBM, but the $4 million launch is not a government project . . . it was put together by the Planetary Society. Go for it, chums! EDIT: there was some serious failure in the rocket, and it may be a loss. There's still a tiny ray of hope, but it's diminishing rapidly. Check PS's Solar Sail Blog for updates.

A photo going around the Internet showing a creatively "written on" field turns out to be real. Farmer says next time he'll just write "Send money". No GPS system or anything? Damn fine work.

Paranoid? Can't sleep well? Afraid of terrorists? Get a Quantum Sleeper. You'll rest easy! (Cripes, whatever.)

The world is a weird place.
