Confirmed something about myself last night. When it comes to blunt trauma, surface damage, or muscle strain/pain, I can take it all day, and I'm nearly unstoppable. Internal pain, or anything that cuts/pierces me any deeper, and I'm no damn good.

Kat took out her eyebrow piercing in favour of a larger one, and gave me the old one, since it has a tiny Misfits Fiend skull on the tip. Now, I personally don't much care for facial piercings, so I wasn't getting my eyebrow done, thankyewverramuch, but I wanted to do SOMETHING with it. Unfortunately, the shape doesn't lend itself to many other decent placements. Eventually, Doug and I decided it could go right on the outside of the ear, like this:

The dot shows where the top will show, the line shows how it will be pierced to make it stay (kind of a long, vertical pierce). Now, again, I only was getting this done to have something to do with the jewelry, NOT because I really wanted something pierced. Dianna is the pierce junkie, I'm all about the ink. I nearly stopped him from doing it, in fact, I was opening my mouth to tell him not to bother when he pushed the needle through.

This was about the time I made my little discovery. Jumpin' Jesus Stop-Dancin' Christ, that motherfucking hurt. Interesting side note: this little problem I have with my hand cramping up? I had such a fist going, I had to whack my hand against a door jamb to get it to open back up.

Needless to say, my natural humour took a leave of absence for the rest of the night, as I was starting to get nauseous and only really wanted to claw my ear off. Quite obviously, I slept for complete shit last night, and yes, I'm still in pain. Hell, I'd have him take the damn thing out and just let the hole heal over if I wasn't such a stubborn bastard who refuses to let anything beat him.

Fuck this, I'll stick to the ink from here on out. The healing time is shorter, the care is easier, and you have much more art to enjoy when it's over.

Dude! Someone should have told you that a cartilage piercing is one of the most painful! Not a great way to start. Personally, I took all mine out in favor of more ink. I'd rather sit through a 4 hour tattoo than get another piercing. Don't fret none young pup, it should be feeling better in about a month.

Yep, it does hurt doesn't it! ;)

I'm way too much of a wuss to get anything in the cartiledge(sp?) pierced.

Chin up, I'm sure you can take it...

My pain threshold is pretty much identicle to yours. Ink, no problems. It didn't so much HURT as it just felt like my skin was getting...tighter. The only piercings I ever wore, though, hurt like FUCK, and they were only lobes! Of course, the fact that the piercer was using a needle (as opposed to the gun) and took almost a minute per lobe to push it through probably didn't help...

Cartilage is the killer - some of the most painful piercings I've had have been cartilage.

Though now that's all a walk in the park after this weekend just gone!

I'll tell you a story, and maybe you'll take it out and maybe you won't. But it's a little wisdom, maybe.

Once upon a time I told JM I thought nipple rings in men were sexy, damn sexy. So. I take our toddler son to see Granny buried (first time in two years + we've been separated), come home, and find a pierced hubby. Fast forward oh, about four years, and dh wakes up out of a dead sleep, sits bolt upright and shouts "Oh my god my nipple ring just fell out!" and then collapses back into sleep. Between the piercing and the weird outburst, he went through several rings of different types, almost every healing thing to think of except antibiotic prescriptions (and I'm damn good at piercings, seeing as how I do like them, although I tend to keep them hidden), and never did anything to promote infection. Yet for four years or so, it was always in some state of agitation. After it fell out in the middle of the night, there was NEVER any sign of infection; within three days it healed to almost invisibility, and to this day three or so years later you can just *barely* tell he was pierced. Mostly because of his weird nocturnal reaction (and he doesn't remember nor ever did remember sitting bolt upright and shouting...just an immense sense of sudden relief), we decided that he was just never meant to be pierced there, and he'd rather stick to ink.

So basically...you're not alone.

I've considered getting my nipples done, but just never got to the point where i said 'yes, i want to deal with the pain and the healing and the whatnot"...and very probably never will.

Yes, ink is oh-so-addictive. I got my third finished tonight (barring some touch-up when it's healed, of course)...and I'm already ready for more.

Be careful babe, My cartliege piercings took almost a year to heal and stop getting infected, and I take good care of them. Not that it will happen to you...but be careful .
