Google Bundle

Google has made a pretty nifty package deal. Head over to Google Pack's site and see what's what.

Basically, it's a bundle deal (freeware), but the nice thing is that you can customize which parts you want and decline the ones you don't, before downloading. Also, they were smart enough to talk to some freeware biggies to add to the package. Available are:
  • Google Desktop
  • Google Earth
  • Google Talk
  • Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
  • Picasa (photo organizer)
  • Firefox (with Google Toolbar preloaded)
  • Norton AntiVirus 2005
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal
  • Trillian
  • GalleryPlayer HD Images
  • RealPlayer
  • Adobe Reader 7
  • and a slideshow-style screensaver
Now, me personally, all I snagged was Google Earth and Google Desktop, since the rest of it I already have or know I don't want/need. Earth is an extension of Google Maps, and is just fun to goof off with, much less as an actual map system; it is pretty sweet, to be straight up. Desktop, I wasn't sure about. I have used SysMetrix for a long time, now, and I like it, but I figured I'd give this a whirl and see what was up. After a little playing, I dropped SysMetrix. The thing that hooked me was the customizability of it. Lots of widgets/extensions/whatever you wanna call them let me make the sidebar utility that I really wanted. Not skinnable, sadly (that's kinda minor), but on the flipside I can set it up just how I want and get rid of crap I don't need. Hell, it's presently doing the system monitoring that I used SysMetrix for, as well as watching my HD frag levels (which, I note, are higher than they should be)...and this is all on top of the other stuff.

So, yeah, pretty cool. Well worth checking out.
