Links...Because I Can
Well, once again, humanity rears it's ugly head to remind us all of why it should be killed off. Apparently, there's a helpline being set up for distressed Harry Potter fans. Two characters in the popular series are supposedly dying off in the seventh and, thankfully, final instalment of the popular book series...and it appears that there is enough people upset already that this kind of thing is necessary. Fucking Hell, people, if you cannot deal with a fictional character's death...especially seeing as how there isn't going to be any further book anyway...then you have deeper problems that need to be addressed.

On a good note, check out this guy's carved crayons.

Ya know, I was a little upset with the deaths of a few characters in the last book I read (Dark Tower VII), but uhm... only for a couple of minutes. I know how easy it is to get attached to a fictional character, especially one from a series of books, where you've come to "know" them over several years and books. But in the end, it's fiction. If you can't handle it, stop reading.

I think feeling sadness about a character in a book dying is good--after all, part of the enjoyment of a story is having your emotions affected by what happens to the characters. However, if a fictional character's death makes you so upset that you need a helpline, then there is something wrong with you.

Part of the problem is that many people have become accustomed to stories with happy endings--which is rather unfortunate, as allowing for sad endings makes storytelling richer--so a character's death can come as a shock.

Katie Leung (who played Cho Chang in one of the movies) was threatened by HP fangirls because her character dumped Harry.

The helpline thing is ka-razy.

The carved crayons are cool. I saw a dude awhile back who did similar things with pencils. To the point of having carved functioning chain links in the medium.

Nah...what they're really distressed about is the fact that Harry (aka Dan Radcliffe) is performing nude on stage in a play that portrays him as a youth who has sex with horses. :P *snickers*

Crayon dude has WAY too much time on his hands. lol
