R.I.P. Boots Randolph

Sure, I post more than a few death announcements, generally sticking to ones that had some kind of impact or me. Not gonna care as much about someone dying who was nothing to me, right? A few, though, hit hard, not because I knew them or anything, but just because they've meant something to me...like this one.

Boots Randolph died today, after being taken off the respirator he'd been on after being admitted to the hospital following a cerebral haemorrhage. He was 80 years old. While he was probably best known for his hit 'Yakety Sax', he'd recorded more than 40 albums. His sax playing is known the world over. He'd been both a session musician and a solo artist, and has played on many famous songs.

Boots was one of the musicians that helped fire my love for blues and deep jazz. He's also one of the main influences that made me want to learn to play the saxophone (and, frankly, would still like to do). I mourn his passing.
