Missin' Old Times
Yes, I'm a Southern Boy™, so there's just a part of me that's sorta required to like this song, I suppose. Still, beyond that, I'm a die-hard Skynyrd fan, what can I say? And while the song rocks, just by itself, I often remember, several years ago, sitting around my desk in my old apartment, dravengodvamp kicked back next to me, both of us about three sheets to the wind, singing along at the top of our lungs. Good times.

Oh, excuse me, the solo just started...

*five minutes of three-guitar solo later*

...ahhhhhhh, perfection. Man, I miss that guy being around.

Music does that to me, a lot. I can't hear "Sweet Child O'Mine" without thinking of me, discordian and Alice in the parking lot outside the smoke shop, each of us doing a passable job of air-playing our respective band roles. When I hear Alice Cooper's "School's Out" it makes me think of the last day of high school, when I talked to a DJ I knew at the big rock station in the area and got them to play it as we were leaving, and passing the word to as many people as possible, so that the parking lot was full of Cooper. I could go on and on.

Ahh... those were some good times. I do sometimes miss the three of us, the way we were before she and I started dating. And I too remember that time in front of the smoke-shop on Riverdale. Man... that car was DEFINITELY a-rockin!

Yeah, we were quite a crew in those days. And, gotta say, we made a pretty damn passable G'n'R!

Hah! One the last day of high school me and three friends went tearing down the halls as the bell rang shouting the lyrics to that song.

I think everyone needs to have that song around for the end of a school year at some point.

This was wild though. Turned out that one of my mom's friends was long-time old-schoolmates with one of the DJ's of the big rock station in the area, and I met her, quite accidentally, when they came over to the house to pick my mom up for something they were all going to do. She and I got to talking (I didn't even realize who it was until I was introduced), and she heard that I was planning on studying radio in cololege, and offered to let me come hang out at the station some time; how lucky was that? Anyway, I asked her to play this right at like 3:10 or something, just long enough for us all to get to the parking lot, and told everyone to turn their radios up loud...it was a thing of beauty.
