R.I.P. Gary Gygax

My gaming-oriented friends probably already know this, but today, I mourn the passing of the greatest of them all in the Land of RPGs. Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons and, arguably, the entire genre of role-playing games as we know it, passed away at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He'd been in poor health for some time.

Sir, you and your creations have been part of my life longer than any single thing I chose for myself, and your legacy will continue evermore. You're earned your rest.

Note: yes, I considered making a few wisecracks about him "reaching -10 HP", "failing his save vs. Death Magic", and "there was no cleric around with 5,000 GP worth of diamonds", but I chose not to do so. Partly this is due to how big a part of my life RPGs always have been, and thus, how close to home this hits me. Partly, it was due to so many others making those wisecracks first. ;)
