Cyborgasm

I promised myself that City of Heroes would be the last thing I installed, since I knew that it would take a long time to update, and it would pretty well occupy my time once it did. So, I got all my files transferred back, installed a few essential programs, and decided that, for the most part, I would hold off on installing others, as the majority of them are so rarely used. With all the major set-up done, I finally pulled out my trusty (if old and out of date) CoH discs, installed them, and set to updating the game.

This took, as you can no doubt guess from the post time, quite a while. Install, update, scan and verify, and fix any incorrect files. At long last, the game was ready, and in I went to slam all the game settings up to full, just to see what this new machine would do.

Ho. Lee. Shit.

Even with everything cranked WAY the fuck up, even with effects turned on that I don't care about, even with everything maxed out, the thing ran so smooth, I was hard-pressed to keep up with the motion. Smooth as glass and fast as fire. For those of you in the know, I took a hero (partially stealthed teleporter and with an aura) into the middle of a Vanguard/Rikti skirmish in the War Zone and never stuttered. I also hopped my 37 'Bot MM across St. Martial, specifically to check on water effects, from the Black Market to the trainer at the Golden Giza, and I've never moved so smoothly or quickly. High water effects, full Bloom and Depth of Field, 50,000 particles, all settings at High or Very high detail, 4x anisotropic, you name it...my god, I never imagined the game could be this wonderful. On top of it all, the load times have been chopped to less than a quarter of what they were, and there's zero pause from game to menu or desktop when quitting.

I simply must go to bed now, or I'll try to play more, and since Doug is asleep on the couch, that wouldn't be nice. I'll have plenty of time tomorrow, and you better believe that's exactly what my time will be spent doing: seeing the game for the first time, again.

Oh, and the machine has gained it's name: De Vermis Mysteriis.
