R.I.P. George Carlin

It hurts me to have to say this. Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital this evening. He was 71. He'd had a history of heart problems, and was admitted this afternoon for chest pains.

This was a hero, to me and to many. A man unafraid to speak out in a way that made people listen, and unafraid to be less-than-PC 9or, 99% of the time, very not PC), he laid it on the line and didn't back down. This is a great loss to the world and to free speech, as well as to entertainment.

No one will forget you, George, whether they want to or not. You kicked plenty of ass while you were here.
