Hmm, so, either you can express that you care, and be part of the deluge which is annoying to the person you care about, or you can not say anything, and hope they know it and don't just look back and wonder why they never heard from you.

Well, now they know. ;)

I don't think it's ever a mistake to let someone know you care, or that you're sending good thoughts their way.

I have to agree with divinemissb; I do not think that it is ever a mistake to tell someone that you care. I mean, that's what friends do, right? It's like telling your beloved that you love them. Don't just assume they know...share your feelings with them.

Sorry if that sounds a bit preachy.

I tend to agree. In this case, this was in direct response to someone mentioning that the deluge of responses he was getting was starting to be overwhelming and not-as-helpful as one might think. This was just a sneaky easy to express without being part of the sympathy-splosion.
