R.I.P. Don LaFontaine
The King of Voiceovers has fallen silent. Don LaFontaine died Monday afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He passed away following complications from Pneumothorax, the presence of air or gas in the pleural cavity, the result of a collapsed lung.
Trust me, even if you don't know the name...you know the voice.
That voice was one of the things that got me interested in the idea of doing voice work. Lemme tell you, as a kid, when there's no such thing as the Internet, it's a bitch to find out who "that voice" is, but I made the calls and bugged my local TV station until they found out for me. That's a voice that will be missed, even if most people won't realize it.
