Banks, And Why They Suck

Let's talk about banking, shall we?

People ask me why I son't have a bank account, and why I'm so loathe to get one. It's simple really: my money is my money, and no one else gets to use it. NO ONE. My money is to be available to me, when I choose to have it, for the reasons I want it.

Banks are not necessary to you, and they are not your friends. What does a bank do, really? They hold your money, charging you for the privilege of having them hold on to it, and then they use your money to make their money. Investments, et cetera. They sure don't make all their moeny off your transaction fees. So, here's your money working, not for you, but for them. They use your money...and you see, at most, a fraction of that in interest, if you have an account that accrues interest.

No wonder 'banker's hours' are so slim...they don't have to actually DO anything. You give them money, they invest it, make money, and let you have it back. They made a profit sitting on their asses. Then, when you need to borrow a little extra, they fuck you in the ass, as royally as possible. Why? Because they don't want to give you THEIR money, they want you to give them YOUR money. Hell, now that the days of computer programs have taken over, they don't even take time to look over what you might be borrowing FOR, they just plug in the numbers, and if the machine says no, you're fucked. Doesn't matter what the circumstances are, they can't do anything about it.

Ever hear the term 'usury'? The dictionary defines it as "the practice of lending money and charging the borrower interest, especially at an exorbitant or illegally high rate." Calling someone a 'usurer' used to be a serious insult. It's not really in use anymore...because, of course, the practice of lending money and charging intererst on it is no longer the shady practice it once was, it's now an acceptable business practice.

These guys are the ultimate scam artists. Look over this: your money is supposedly safe in a bank, becasue it's insured by the government. In fact, banks are allowed to lend you more money than they have. How? Because those loans are insured by the government. How does the government have the credit to allow this? Because they have loans from the banks...circular logic, anyone? Bank money is literally created out of thin air.

Credit history? If the banking situation in this world (including the credit card companies, and I'm not even going there) hadn't gotten as out of hand as it has, that wouldn't be a problem. But we introduced easy credit terms, under these same lending scams, underwritten by the banks, and now you can't wipe your ass without making sure your credit history is good enough to afford the toilet paper.

When I take over the world, I'm shooting the bankers, too.

Big Smile

I just got off the phone with erotocism a few minutes ago. Haven't gotten to actually talk to her since I was last in Seattle, so that was good, and she's handling her situation pretty well, which was GREAT to hear. Also discovered that she and the_tremendous are coming down for the Lovecraft Film Festival, which means I'll get to see her again in a week or so, so that kicks major ass.

Whoo, dig me.
