Getting Old (Suckage)

Work - Movies

Spent the major portion of the day working with dravengodvamp to put up metal siding out at the farm. Not hard work, but sometimes it's hard to work with Ray. *shrug* Got a major chunk of it done, and Doug's help was invaluable, as usual.

Let me just swerve topics for a minute. About what? Film remakes, specifically horror. Maybe you don't think this is a big problem. I disagree; are you aware of the sheer amount of this going on? On top of, say, the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and other bigger ones, here's a list you may or may not have been aware of:
  • Prom Night (2005)
  • The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
  • When a Stranger Calls (2006)
  • The Omen 666 (2006)
  • Black Christmas (2006)
  • The Wicker Man (2006)
  • The Fog (2005)
  • Don't Look Now (2007)
Am I the only one that thinks this is excessive? Apparently. Fucking standards of entertainment have fallen so far, I'm starting to wonder if they'll ever rise again. Borrowing a phrase from Bill Hicks, these things are demons, sent from Hell, to lower the standards.

Family Ties

So my cousin, Katie, calls me out of the blue the other day. Turns out, she's in town, working at the Portland Boat Show, and wants to see me. Now, not only was this out of the blue, but I haven't seen her in something like 10 years, or damn near. On top of that, her dad is the one that basically wrote me off from the family after the debacle with my grandfather's funeral. Needless to say, it made me curious how this would go.

I'm quite happy to report that it went great. Nice to see that the "asshole gene" that seems to be what my uncle's DNA is templated from wasn't passed down to his kids. We had a great time, catching up and talking a lot about the family, which was interesting, as I discovered my mom's been lying about me (telling others she's talked to me when she hasn't...which makes me wonder what she's told them I've said/done). I also got to embarrass her to her co-workers, which, as the eldest of the grand-kids, is my right, dammit.

In the end, damn nice to see her, and when she is back this way in a couple months (I think), she'll come up to the house and see the rest of the family here. Man, it's good to have an experience with a member of my family that doesn't make me want to kill. Now, I'm-a take my buzz and goof off a little with City of Heroes.
