(no subject)

Hmm, a website I've not heard of before today is reporting that seminal comedian Rudy Ray Moore, better known as Dolemite, has died after an extended illness, at age 81.

Problem: Moore was born in '37, making him 71. Also, it claims he died in Akron, Ohio...but Moore lives in Las Vegas. So, until I get confirmation from a more conventional news source, I'll hold off on my condolences.

EDIT: Ha, just noticed the song that was posted on this. I swear, my WinAmp is psychic.

R.I.P. Mr. Blackwell

If there's one thing that the world has forgotten, it's how to snark with style. Anyone can come up with a no-capitals, no-punctuation, sprinkled-with-acronyms comment that says more about the speaker than the subject, but it takes work to truly come up with a great bon mot. One of the lords of this was Mr. Blackwell, who spent nearly the last half-century taking down the flamboyantly (or hideously) dressed stars in his own acidic way.

Sadly, complications from an intestinal infection claimed his life. He was 86. Sad, not only because his razor wit will be missed, but because you know someone will try to step up to be his successor. On the other hand, in this age of websites whose only role seems to be to do just this kind of thing, maybe no one will try to fill his shoes...which would be for the best.
