Gaming Is A Way Of Life

Gaming...NEED

After Jessica's doc appointment today, I stopped off at my local games store. I've been looking and trying to find a geek store around here, but, Newport News being what it is, I haven't had much luck. Still, I got a line on what appears to be as close as I'm gonna get, and it was right down the street from her doc.

Anyway, walked in there just after it opened, and got to talk to the owner. Nice guy, very personable. Ended up just chatting about the state of gaming and gamer players for a good 20+ minutes (short version: it's not cost effective to stock shelves full of RPG books anymore, but CCGs are gold mines). Speaking of RPGs, there was one rack of 4th ed. D&D books...that's it. That was a bit on the disheartening side, but understandable (this is not a place with a big geek subculture...or ANY geek subculture, really). He did say that one of the other stores (there are three in the chain) had a twice weekly 4th ed. game night, but it's not exactly close by. Still, he was open to the idea of my putting up a notice that I was looking for a game group or possibly willing to start one, and was even open to the idea of it being held at the store. Not sure I'd want to do that, I like not having to watch my language or material, but I'm not against the idea. It's a moot point at the moment, regardless.

So, all in all, while the shop isn't what I wanted, it's probably as good as I can hope to get in this town. We'll just have to see.
