On Friday, Michelle Obama will begin digging up a patch of White House lawn to plant a vegetable garden, the first since Eleanor Roosevelt’s victory garden in World War II. While the organic garden will provide food for the first family’s meals and formal dinners, its most important role, Mrs. Obama said, will be to educate children about healthful, locally grown fruit and vegetables at time when obesity has become a national concern.

Right on.

She's got some work ahead of her. She's going to have to get the cars up on cinder blocks left from the last presidency off the lawn first.

This is the best thing I've heard all day. It's very cool that she is doing this, now more people will as well. Get rid of their ornamental lawn bs, and do something good for their neighborhoods, environment, themselves, and their little patch of earth.

Great news! I followed the WHO farm for a while and had hoped that this would happen.

Unfortunately there are some places in this country where they find it is FAR more important to have your yard look pretty then be functional. We are growing a mini victory garden here, but we have to make it -NOT LOOK- like one at the same time. :/
