Tura Satana died on Friday. The cult film actress made a huge mark on pop culture, particularly in Russ Meyer's 1965 film, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. She was 72.
Satana wasn't your typical Hollywood siren: The buxom actress and former burlesque star was known for playing strong, sexual and unforgiving women. In Faster, Pussycat, she starred as a go-go dancer gone bad; she also did all of her own stunts. Satana's upbringing was tough: As a child, she spent part of her life in a Japanese-American internment camp and survived a brutal rape at age 9. By the time she was a teenager, she had been trained in martial arts, led a gang and (briefly) married.
Her influence can be seen all over pop culture, and she'll be missed, though her spirit will forever kick ass.
