Last night, Jessica's headache finally broke. 3+ months of unbroken migraine Hell finally eased off. The Prednisone did the trick, apparently. Of course, we're dealing with the fact now that it makes her sick, but tomorrow starts the weaning-off process, so, light at the end of the tunnel and all. Earlier today, she paused and mentioned that she'd been in so much pain for so long this time, it actually felt odd to not hurt. Hopefully, the Depakote will help to prevent this from happening again, but that remains to be seen. In the meantime, though, it's just nice to know she's more free, less in pain.

In trying to look for possible triggers, we're trying out a couple things. We already have so little caffeine that it made little sense to cut it out, and we already quit drinking. Two days now, she's had no cigs, and apart form one twitchy nic-fit, she's doing very well with it. Also, she's going back to doing the vegetarian/vegan thing...which, in the immortal words of Samuel L. Jackson, pretty much makes me a vegetarian. I'm not gonna be as hardcore about it as she, but i could stand to lose a few pounds, anyway.

Meanwhile, i still need to fix a downspout form the gutters that came loose in the hurricane, and the damn lawnmower is refusing th start again. It's always something, huh?

Really happy to hear there are improvements, lights in tunnels, and suns on horizons.

Huzzah for less pain!

Man, ain't it the truth. The pain has been maddening for her; let's see anyone try to live with that kind of skull-splitting pain for 3 months straight at a time. Me, I'm just heaving a big ol' sigh of relief that it appears to just be some form of migraine and not something more dangerous.

Shit, migraines are bad enough, much less anything worse. In a very literal sense, just the thought of a three-month migraine made me shudder and a little queasy.

Yeah, it's been real fun for her.

Did you ever get Skype installed? Was gonna call you tonight.
Crowley St. Bastarddaemonwise on September 12th, 2011 08:56 pm (UTC)
Not yet, but that can be fixed. Timing is bad, though; tonight I won't be at my computer until uber-late, and possibly tomorrow as well. Have time for a call on Wednesday?

Yeah, absolutely. Wasn't like tonight was the only time, just hadn't talked to ya. Wednesday it is.

YAY

I have several friends with migraines. Their triggers are:

1) Not getting enough sleep
2) Red wine (specifically, the tannins in red wine trigger migraines in most people who are prone to migraines)
3) Alcohol (one friend who has any alcohol at all gets into a nasty dehydration spiral that turns into a migraine)

Now that she has a way to stop migraines, but maybe after she's rested a while, she can try slowly returning items to her diet to find out for sure what causes problems.

Exactly. We're trying to narrow down what triggers there might be.

Awesome. I understand migraines are profoundly unfun, and that's not even the ones that go on for 3 months. So, yeah, hooray for finally finding some relief.

Prednisone has its own set of drawbacks, some of which appear in withdrawal. But it is what finally brought some relief. My partner is getting off of Prednisone right now, having been on it for a completely different malady.

It is, indeed, always something.

Yeah, it makes her sick as a dog, but that's still better than the pain.

So glad to hear she's free of that pain! *hugs to you both*

Well, turns out it's not completely gone, but at least it's on the way out. Wheee!
