Discovered that I've been wrong about something for quite a while. I was always under the impression that WinXP would only recognize 2GB of RAM. This is not correct, it'll handle up to 4GB.

Seeing as how some of the newest content in CoH makes me choke and run out of memory from time to time, and seeing as how numerauko's old machine is just sitting here unused with 4 1GB sticks in it, guess who has 2 thumbs and whose machine just got an extra 2GB of memory?

This Guy.

In other news, I still need to hook up said old machine as a file server/2nd account mule, one of these days.

You tool user, you!

As far as I know, it'll only recognize 4GB if you have a 64bit processor. outside of that, it should still recognize 3 GB. And you know, that 4GB is only also recognized if the mb supports it. AND if you're using the PAE (If your hardware supports PAE)

Windows XP Pro will actually recognize 8GB of RAM...although not official by Microsoft, Dell supports this.

I recently found out the laptop I picked up in Phoenix is an EARLY 64 bit processor model and will register 4GB of memory...so, that thing is being upgraded to Win7 in a couple of weeks when i have time. I already have the memory lined up.

Hope it all works out for you!

Miss ya, man!

Yeah, it's not the full 4GB being recognized. I'm getting 3.25 listed, and that's still an upgrade. Down the roafd, in the near future, I'll probably try to upgrade the OS to 7, and that'll make a diff, too. We'll see.

This is exactly why I was so happy to get WinXP 64bit. I only have 4GB of RAM, but I wanted the OS to recognize ALL FOUR.

I'd love to upgrade to 8, but my processor is something like 6 years old at this point. I've upgraded everything in the box except the mobo and processor... it's time for a new machine. AFTER my savings account is where I want it.

One day I WILL play City on Ultra Mode without lag. I swear it!! ;]

That would be very nice, yes. I can already see a difference, which is a bonus. Also, my machine isn't sluggish after shutting the game down, which shows an improvement.

that's awesome :-) My system is always sluggish after shutting CoH down...but thankfully, I'm usually on my way to bed after playing, so it's not a huge deal.

I'm "@Archmage Chaos" on global. Say hey sometime, I play all over. Mostly mornings, lately, but you never know.

@Samiya is me...I'm mostly a Virtue-ite, but I'm slowly making characters across all servers so I can do big events on my own schedule (granted, those other characters tend to be WEIRD!).
