Right, so, where were we? Ah yes, I'm supposed to be an assistant manager by this weekend, very trial by fire/thrown in the deep end style. I'm sure I can handle that. Dave seems to think they'll move me up to full manager within another month. by the time he's transferred, but we'll see. It certainly does put a damper on my personal time, such as it is NOW, but I'll figure it out.
Yesterday was the All-Star competition tie-breaker. Seems that, in the end, our shop's number 2 position was not unique, so they hit all three contenders today for a tie-breaker run. Just to get that part out of the way: we scored 97 out of 100, which is damn fine and an improvement over our first score, but another shop hit 99, so, not us. Still, we're number one in all of Tidewater, and number two in the entire region (160+ stores, not bad for the place that in sometimes considered the 'ghetto store'). They loved all the improvements and were impressed with drive, attitude, and style. We just missed a couple points, and while I'd argue that at least 2 of the three points we should have received, I don't care, I'm proud of our team.
Needless to say, knowing the suits were coming, we spent every spare moment cleaning, fixing, and prepping. got the holes in the walls fixed and painted. Got the placed scrubbed so clean you could eat off of the floor. All in all, the place was amazing. Now, we've had a problem hearing the phone when we're all out in the bay, so Dave decided we could run a ringer out there. Easy job, just run a line out, 2-jack the phone cord, and plug it in. Well, short version is that while we were doing this, someone accidentally leaned funny and a light fixture cracked Dave in the noggin. Not only were we concerned he might have a concussion (don't think so, though, just an ugly gash), but the floor is now covered in pieces of ceiling tile, insulation, dust, and a light fixture is hanging precariously...all as they are on their way. We got it all cleaned and the light tied up with some rope, so it looks ugly but it's safe. they didn't hold it against us, thankfully. Man, what production.
Spent another chunk of yesterday doing interviews for new hires. I feel really odd about being in a position where I'm supposed to be an authority and know what the Hell to do, and really don't. I know I have at least one to do today and Dave's off, so we'll see how it goes. Out of the five done yesterday: two, i sent to other stores; one seems OK but had a weird vibe; one, I didn't particularly like; and one, I REALLY want to hire because she'll make a helluva CSA once I'm not it. Sending her to my District Manager for a second interview, for sure.

In other news, I've started paying back Miss Kathryn for the moving costs. Sooner that's done, the sooner we can look at moving out, and that is really desired. I'm convinced half the reason Jessica is sick so much is this house. We finally got her past the crud that was working her, and now we're on to a three-day (so far) headache/migraine. As expected, she's miserable, and things haven't been fun. Hate that I can't help her feel better, but I try to get her giggling when I can. Used a plushie pig as a puppet last night and rewrote the lyrics to "Sexy And I Know It", and that worked pretty well. Hey, I'll try anything.
Side note: need to replace my webcam. Any suggestions?
