So, we got up and got going Saturday morning...actually, we were up earlier than we expected, so we got a good start. I got to start the day off right by making DI collapse in helpless laughter (which wasn't so good since she was driving), all because when she mentioned a hideously bright green truck, my response was "Where?". I had been going to make a comment about not being able to see it through the glow, but apparently, that was funnier than the punchline would have been. Off down the road we drive, laughing, smoking, pointing out the stupidities of people and things. Making good speed until we hit Seattle and ran into Seattle traffic.
As we crawl through the city, we decide to go ahead and look up Gasworks Park, since that is where Di's photoshoot would be. She'd never been, and I was only there once, and wasn't driving, so I didn't actually know where it was. Imagine my surprise to find it was just around the corner from Heidi's old apartment, and I hadn't known. I'd been wanting to go back ever since I saw it, during those first few days I had been in Seattle, and there it was. Color me a chump.
OK, so now we know where we are going, and how to get there easily. Time to go look for a hotel for the night. At this point, we discovered that there are virtually no cheap motels within the city. Sure there are the larger upscale ones, but try to find a Motel 6 or something...nope. We kept going until we hit Shoreline, and I got off, headed over to Highway 99 to see what I could find. Holiday Inn Express? Hmmm, sounds like a quick-stay version of Holiday Inn, OK...$109 for one night? I don't fucking think so. We finally decided that we would just drive back tonight, save the hotel bill, and sleep in our own bed. We didn't have anything we were gonna do on Sunday anyway.
Quick bite of lunch, then back to Gasworks to meet up with planetnikita and superfledermaus for the shoot. This ended up being pretty cool, all things considered (the things considered being that I was sitting in the sun for a few hours...can we say headache?). Both were a lot of fun, and seemed like peeps I could have fun hanging out with (and who both get a shout out and a welcome to the War Journals...Let The Galaxy Burn, my friends!). And I got to play with superfledermaus's little boy, who reminded me of Adam.
Well, that left us free at about 3:30, with nothing to do. We figured what the Hell, let's catch a flick. We were just a few minutes late to catch "Minority Report", so we opted to go for sheer action and see "XXX". Let me just say that while I'm not going to say this was a good film, it WAS a helluva lot of fun to watch. The stunts were extreme-sports nightmares, but they were fun. I agree with discordian that the comparisons to James Bond are absurd, but we enjoyed it nevertheless. Soundtrack had some great songs, too.
Dinner at Charlie's, and then headed over to the Bad Juju Lounge. It was earlier than I had thought I would be there, but I figured I'd go ahead and get there, and wait to see if anyone showed up. No one did, though, and so I decided "to Hell with this", and we hit the road back to Vancouver. Unfortunately, something aboiut dinner was not sitting well with me, and I only made it past Olympia before I had to turn over the car to Di...I was sick as a dog. We made it back just after midnight, and headed to bed. Di spent a good forty-five minutes laughing hysterically over various comments and jokes as we unwound from the road, and down we crashed.
And thus ended our trip. I wish I'd gotten to see some of you, but I know it was short notice.
