Pluses And Minuses
So I went ahead and upgraded to WinAmp 3 yesterday. It's finally out of beta stage, so why not, right?

Well, they went for freeform skinning now, which is all well and good, but my old skins no longer work with it, even though it supposedly supports them. OK, I can live with that...Interesting that they only have a 'full' version available, and the "standard and lite versions are coming soon"...so it's harder to put out versions without components? Ooooo-kay...hmm, MilkDrop doesn't wanna work with it (the best WinAmp visualization plug-in ever)...THAT seriously sucks. Hope they update that...Hmmm...the playlist, even set for 'shuffle' always starts at the top of the list anyway...

I'm also discovering that more people have crappy resolution than I thought. Over half the damn skins are "tiny" or "compact" styles...great for all you 800x600 people, but me and my 1280x1024 can't see the damn things...especially annoying when, in the interest of art, they use itty-bitty buttons. Cripes. One that I like had a comment about how 'big' it was, and that was supposed to be bad...man, I'd love it about twice the size it is.

As usual, 90% of the visualization plugins are nothing but collections of AVS settings...why does WinAmp.com allow this shit? Well, therse are the same people that give incredible ratiungs for the crappiest skins, etc...ones that don't work, or are unfinished, or whatever, so I shouldn't expect much.

All in all, I'd stick with 2 for now, until they get their shit together, but it's installed and works, so I'm not going through downloading 2 again. I'll live.

Man, I feel like i was drinking last night. Low-grade headache all day, the room feels stuffy, I'm tired...dammit, this better clear up, I'm supposed to go to karzon's later tonight.

I couldnt even get winamp 3 to run on win 2k. It constantly crashed out on me and locked up. Something with the file handling system, despite the fact that it is supposed to be compatible. Ive always been happy with the old one anyways..I rarely ever changed the skin since it was always minimised anyways...

Well, being the graphics monkey and skin whore that I am, I can't help it...even though it'll usually be either minimized or behind other things...I gotta change it. *LOL*

winamp 3 bugs
I've noticed some odd changes in behavior too, and no the old plugins wouldn't work so i just deleted them. eventually all the good stuff will be redone for V3.

I really hate that I can't just double click the add button any more and get the browse window. :(

Its a small thing, but you know how that single grain of sand in your shoe can drive you insane...

Re: winamp 3 bugs
Exactly..I don't hate it, it's just annoying. Seems like whenever someone makes a new version of something, that have to screw up something that people liked...they can't seem to leave the good things alone.

I tried Winamp 3 a while ago. I liked parts of it (all the media in one place) but it lost the elments I liked the best.
You can't stop Winamp at the end of a track.
You can't slowly fade a track out to stop it.
You can't right click on a directory and play all the songs in it.
Winamp 3 is slow. (!?!) Winamp 2 was super fast. I can play counter-strike with it in the backgroun with no loss of speed.

Those are my favorite features in Winamp, and they killed them with 3. So I archived the latest installer of 2, just in case they feel like "helping" us and taking 2 away.

I'm on the borderline between grabbing an installer of 2 or not. I think I just might.

It's bollocks. I tried it twice a month ago, and it's slower and buggier than shite. Stick to 2.80 like me. :)

Yeah, snagged an installer of 2.8 again earlier this morning...thinking I'm gonna stick with it.
