Life Choices
Seems a lot of people are in the midst of heavy decision making lately, and are worried about it/afraid of it. I want to offer all of you some wisdom from my addled brain; take it as you will.

The first and most important word you learn is 'no'. As in "No, this is not what I want." Maybe we don't always know what we DO want, but that doesn't mean we have to stick with what we DON'T. Humans are adaptable, we alone can change our situations. 'Better the devil you know' is not an acceptable answer.

As for 'how do I know what is right'? It's not a question of which path takes you to where you want to go, it's a question of which takes you away from what you don't. Life is a journey, not a destination; never stop traveling or experiencing.

I'm not gonna ramble on too far explaining this...I think it's pretty clear. Life is easy, it's people that make it hard. You really can do anything you want to do, you just have to be willing to work for it...scratch that: you have to be willing to work for YOU.

Yah.
And you don't have to put up with SHITE. Not at all. Even if people tell you it's "unhealthy" to stick with your demands. The best thing you can do is put that right out there. Whoever doesn't like it can take a fuckin' hike! I totally agree with you.

If you put a frog in water and turn up the burner, the frog will boil to death.

But if you stick a frog in boiling water he will jump back out.

Life is easy. You just gotta stick to your guns and find people with similar "fuckupedness" as you. lol

Even if people tell you it's "unhealthy" to stick with your demands.

People who say that are the ones that are unwilling to go along with your demands.

Descisions of course are not always that simplistic.

Oh some are.

And I rellish those.

I am always prone to lots of thinking though. I generally am pretty aware of the costs and ballances of any given descision. As a result, I tend to think very carefully as any given decision has the potential to restrict other possible descisions.

Right now I have a lot of descisions I wish to make, and a lot of things I wish to do. The only problem is that I see 4 very specific paths I can go down. All of which would to a good deal exclude the others. All of which have very specific prices/benefits. And of course, I don't expect anyone to solve my problem with magic words, and nor do I expect to fail to survive. I expect any path I go down to be fun, but any of them I go down, I will do so at a cost... So it is mroe an intellectual excercise in determining which costs are most acceptable.

Sometimes thinking too much is bad too.
You make life seem like one big math problem.
How fun can that be? :P

Actually I have a danm lot of fun. :)

There are somethings that require a good deal of thought though. For my normal personallity traits, you might look at my LJ. :)

I am just being strangely introspective and thoughtful as of late.

Re:
Decisions ARE always that simplistic. It is over-thinking and over-emotion that makes them less so.

I, too, have the 'over-thinking' virus.

Life is about choices.

Yep. You're right Frank. And thanks for the thwap on the head.
Life _is_ a journey... It's hard to think about that when you're standing there, looking at these roads you could possibly go down, and you know _some_ of them are going to end up hurting you... and _some_ will end in something wonderful.

Life is so odd.

Re: Life is about choices.
Exactly.

Lovecraft said it best: 'The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear. And the oldest and strongest type of fear is fear of the unknown." When you don't know, you fear, and when you fear what you don't know, you stay with what you do...regardless.

Instead, though, you can embrace the possibility of the unknown...and free yourself.

One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite books, Richard Bach's Illusions:

"You are never given a wish without also being given the ability to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however."
