For those of you who are not familiar with them (and I'm betting that's most of you), The Thickets are a happy/literate/punk band, who takes most of their inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft...and the songs that aren't Lovecraftian are generally bad sci-fi kinda references. With titles like "Goin' Down To Dunwich", "The Innsmouth Look", "Big Robot Dinosaur", "Colour Me Green", and "Six-Gun Gorgon Dynamo", you can see what you're in for. The best part is that, as opposed to a lot of punk, you can understand the lyrics, which makes it even better when you keep up with all the Lovecraft literature. Unfortunately, they are not big or well-known, and their CD's are not exactly widely available.
Still, I've got a good dozen tracks so far, and another 10 or so on the list to go, so I'm happy. I got to see them live at last year's Lovecraft Film Festival, and I'm hoping they show up this year as well (there are pix of them in with my photos from the festival).
Gotta go rock out now. Ciao.
