High Point

Regardless of anything else, I was impressed by a column in the Orlando Sentinel today, written by Kathleen Parker. The column in question (much thanks to stig_mata for the link), entitled 'The Uunbearable Irrelevance Of Being A Celebrity', expresses an attitude similar to my own about celebrities who spout off about their political opinions. So impressed and pleased was I that I dropped an e-mail to the Ms. Parker, expressing my appreciation of the article.

Imagine my surprise when I actually got a response, and a quick one at that! Not something you see from very successful people very often (we're talking someone with over 20 years in journalism, H.L. Mencken award for 'attacking ignorance and stupidity with vividness and originality.', and director of the School of Written Expression at the Buckley School of Public Speaking and Persuasion, as well as a member of USA TODAY's Board of Contributors). Needless to say, that was a really good feeling, and made my opinion of her (already a good one) even better.

Every now and then, someone out there does something that really raises my view of at least a small part of humanity. Besides, she thought the quote in my my e-mail signature was cool: "Not only did I disturb your precious angels, but I shredded their silken wings and drank their heavenly ichor." -- R.J.M. Lofficier
