Disney is about to release their latest actual movie (as opposed to the bland, animated diarrhea they usually do), Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl. Overall, and I almost hate to admit it, but I'm impressed. This has a lot of potential to work out to be a great flick. If nothing else, there's no musical numbers, no cute animals, and no general zaniness. There are, however, rotting, undead pirates, and that's ALWAYS a good thing.
There is at least one bit of expected fluff (Disney can't help but put at least ONE bit af crap in it, why make a perfect thing?); they cast Orlando Bloom in the flick, and made sure that he STILL looks good, even if he's supposed to be a blacksmith (which I don't believe for a second), so they are guaranteed to get the teen-chick movie dollar, who will be going in droves to throw their thongs at the screen for him and Johnny Depp. Got some chick involved to be Orlando's girl, and to get captured which sets the whole thing in motion, and of course, she gets the obligatory smart-ass lines and scenes (such as telling a pirate, in combat, "you like pain? Try wearing a corset!") Well, can't win them all. Geoffrey Rush, though, plays the pirate captain, and he always kicks ass, so that might redeem things.
The effects look great, and it looks like a beautifully shot film, so what the Hell, I'll see it. I'm a sucker for pirate flicks. Hell, I even liked Cutthroat Island. Besides, Disney has to make up for that crappy, pathetic, intestinal blockage of a remake of 'Treasure Island' that they did.
