The new regulations, which passed by a 3-2 vote along party lines, will allow companies to, theoretically, set up a monopoly on major media in cities: One company could own up to three TV stations, a daily newspaper, and eight radio stations in one town. Television networks will also be allowed to buy a lot more local stations. The FCC's chairman argued that the old rules were outdated in the age of the Internet and cable.
*sigh* People, come on, is this what you want? MORE consolidation of power in the hands of a few alpha males that then go on to decide what you get to think is important, and trendy, and hot, and not, and sexy, and cool, and desirable? It's bad enough as it is, and now we're helping these mental rapists gain an even better foothold.
You have the ability to write your congressmen, senators, vice-president, president, etc., and tell them what you really think. DON'T go for this "online petition" bullshit, it's pointless and does nothing...swamp their mailboxes (virtual and real) with the message that we aren't satisfied. I've already whipped off my mail to all of the above groups (dig around, you'll find the e-mail addresses).
Yeah, you think, what good will that do? Well, NONE if you don't do it.
