R.I.P. Strom Thurmond  
Is it just me, or did you sorta never expect to hear that he died? I mean, damn, he was 100, the longest serving Senator in History, well-respected, outspoken, and pretty damn smart, all things considered. Even changed his party affiliation during his THAT gets respect from me.

You worked long and hard enough, Strom...time to relax.

I do respect Strom Thurmond for changing his mind on race issues--ditching the ideology of segregation. It takes real courage to change your mind on an issue that was once the basis of a presidential campaign. As far as the party switch, that had more to do with the change in the platforms of the parties over his lifetime than a change in his own convictions.
