Tattoo Artist Gets Revenge
I'll be straight-up honest: if I were one of this guys victims, I'd be tracking him down, right now, to cut a swatch of his skin off to cover my own...and I'm not sure I'd stop there.

This goombah apparently didn't like that college kids were coming into his tat shop to get Chinese characters of various words tattooed on them (like 'Strength', 'Honour', 'Princess', etc.), so he would tattoo something perverse, instead.

~ a guy wanting "strength" and "honour", instead got "small penis"
~ a chick wanting "princess" instead got "prostitute"
~ a chick wanting "beautiful goddess" around her navel instead got "insert General Tso's Chicken here"

The worst part is that this ass feels no remorse, claiming that he feels he is " helping my fellow man by labelling all the stupid people in the world,...It’s not a crime, it’s a public service." I'm not sure where it is that he thinks it's not a crime...basic consumer laws say it is.

Now, let me clarify one thing. I DO agree that these people are idiots. They're complete fucking morons for apparently not checking to see what the kanji for a given phrase actually is, and just going into a tat shop and saying that's what they want. This is permanent marking of the body, which I support...but be intelligent about it. The fact that they had these tattoos and didn't know what they were just shows they are fit to be ridiculed. But for this jackass to do this, and to actually defend what he's doing as some sort of justice...that's not right. That's about as 'not right' as you can get, and I hope someone pulls some serious payback on his ass.

That would be why I designed my tattoos - kanji for "Happiness" and "Suffering" - myself, down to the colour striations. ;)

I'm sorry. I just about lost it in laughter to that.
God of Thunder and Rock'n'Rollarchmage on January 23rd, 2004 01:09 pm (UTC)
Well, yeah, on one level. I want to smack these idiot kids upside the head for being stupid trend-whores. Unless they have some specific connection or enjoyment of Oriental culture, getting kanji tattoos is just gratuitous.

"insert General Tso's Chicken here" C'mon man. You have to give it to the guy, that's pretty fuggin' funny.
stig_mata on January 23rd, 2004 12:52 pm (UTC)
this is why it pays to do your own research....

Re: Holy crap...
Amen to that. Any time I've been 'under the needle', well, first off, I knew EXACTLY what was going on my skin. But it always annoyed me to see these preppy little college chicks come in, you know the type, little camisole type top from The Gap or whatever, and the low-rider/hiphugger jeans with the woven belt that they got at Old Navy. Invariably, they don't know what they want, just that they want a little tattoo because they think it's cool, sop they look through the flash and decide on the same things, butterfly on the hipbone or dolphin in the shoulderblade or small of the back, or something at the navel. These are usually the same ones getting their tongue pieerced, again, 'because it's cool'. No thought, no reason.

But this...I'd be out for blood.

Holy crap...
Granted these people are idiots....it is not the place of the tattoo artist to do such a thing. I really feel like that was a completely immoral thing to do to those people. And i totally condone tattoos and am an aspiring artist myself who would like to tattoo one day for a living. What the fuck was this dude doing...I know what he was thinking and that is fine but acting upon those thoughts is just fucking wrong. The ray of sun shine in the whole thing is that the kanji can be covered fairly easily by something else. That just goes to show people who are serious about tattoos that one should spend time researching and developing their own ideas. Don't jump into the river head first until you know how deep it is.

Actually... I believe that this is a hoax. It has gone around a bit and was featured on snopes.com (which for some reason seems to be down right now).

From a Yahoo! search:

"Urban Legends Reference Pages: Inboxer Rebellion (Round-up)
... page is a round-up to provide readers with a quick check of some hoax-like items
found around the web which we ... Disgruntled Asian Tattoo Artist Inks His Revenge ...

Well, Snopes isn't coming up right now, but that wouldn't surprise me. A little more checking makes me believe the site is satirical, like The Onion.
Auraleedragonmusic on January 23rd, 2004 01:35 pm (UTC)
That is all kinds of fucked up. I agonized long and hard about what to get for a tattoo before I got one. Its not something you trust a complete stranger with unless you KNOW what you are getting. Maybe they are dumb, but they do not deserve that.
unhappymeal on January 23rd, 2004 01:40 pm (UTC)
Man. What an asshole. What a spiteful arogant asshole. Granted, the tatoo industry is being flooded by idiot customers now-a-days, but he's fucking with people's skin. You don't want to tatoo someone? Then tell them to leave your snooty shop.
God of Thunder and Rock'n'Rollarchmage on January 23rd, 2004 01:49 pm (UTC)
Exactly. I agree that these kids are stupid, no argument there, but this is just wrong. Fine, tell them you won't do it. Not fine, fucking up their skin.
daisydeadpetalsadrenalinegirl on January 23rd, 2004 01:55 pm (UTC)
people ARE idiots. i have one of those symbols on the back of my neck meaning "virtue", but i did my research and took the symbol with me to the tat shop. if people are going to be that stupid then they deserve what they get.

A friend of mine owns a tattoo studio and I know something like that would totally piss him off. I can only imagine what he'd say to it. He takes special pride in his work as a tattoo artist and the respect of his customers.

I added you to my friends list.. found you through dream_seer, my girlfriend, hope you don't mind.
God of Thunder and Rock'n'Rollarchmage on January 23rd, 2004 02:41 pm (UTC)
Not at all, always happy to see new people.

As for the story, it looks now as if it's not true, so I wouldn't go pissing him off just yet. ;)
c_rocker28 on January 23rd, 2004 03:12 pm (UTC)
hehe.

One of those that will become an 'urban legend' type stories.. :)
The Cynic: S&Hdiscordian on January 23rd, 2004 09:30 pm (UTC)
What's funny is that the particular first combination of Kanji described, doesn't take that much research to find: *points at the user icon*

Exactly...people should do the research before inking themselves.

However, as it turns out, this story is probably a hoax.
