Now, I'm not hammering geeks in general, no more than I was wishing bad on Christians earlier. They have their right to their thoughts, desires and beliefs, and I support them...but they have the same qualities. In fact, let's compare the two, shall we:
Christians: Together, they denounce everybody else for their beliefs, but internally, they cannot agree on what is the 'right' Christianity (Methodist, Baptist, Roman Catholic, Episcopalian, etc)...and they all spun off from Judaism, which came first, and is slightly different from them all, and they don't agree with.
Linux Geeks: Together, they denounce everybody else for their beliefs, but internally, they cannot agree on what is the 'right' Linux (FreeBSD, Red Hat, Suse, etc)...and they all spun off from UNIX, which came first, and is slightly different from them all, and they don't agree with.
Amazing similarity...no wonder both groups annoy the fuck out of me.
Now, what brought this on, you may ask? Well, we have a FERVENT antagonist of Microsoft products in the studio with us tonight,
Well, apparently, for all his happy spouting, he didn't like having his conversation posted, and said so. Fine and dandy, but, like any good mindless drone with his head shoved in his harddrive, his responses were NOT backing anything up, they were mindless personal attacks (Horrors! More Similarities!). He even lashed out at me, when I spoke up...criticizing my website! As if that had anything to do with the convo, finishing with a oh-so-trendy epithet of 'fanboy' (this coming from the SlashDot link-dropper). And a wonderful attempt to show that I am a 'loser' with no life fell flat. A tad bitter, are we? The final defiant act of our friend was to delete any posts in his journal from
Well, as always, I refuse to ban anyone, unless they just feel like filling my pages with useless tripe. And I may not, even then, if only to let them show the world what fools they are. And to my friends, who may be geeks, I love you anyway. This wasn't directed at the millions of geeks out there, proud to be geeks, and happy with themselves. I salute you. But, just as with religion, it's your choice for your use. Don't tell me I am wrong...I'm operating just fine.
And for those that wonder, I use Win98SE, and I'm not changing a thing. One, it works just fine, I've never had a problem I couldn't fix, and two, I won't change until I have an OS that will run all my proggies. Linux ain't it.
