Oops
Apparently, there was a bit of a mishap on the set of the new 'Willy Wonka' film. Seems a camera wasn't secured properly, and fell into a 3-foot-deep vat of synthetic chocolate.  The cost of the day's mishap?  £500,000 (the camera alone was £300,000, plus everyone standing around idle).

Too bad they aren't taking this as a sign and abandoning the flick.  I know, I know, I'm in a minority, and everyone else thinks it's a great idea to have Johnny Depp star in this remake.  But I don't...and anyone who's reasons for thinking it IS a good idea are anything along the lines of "but Depp is SO attractive" will be summarily ignored.

Ewwww what is up with remaking classics? Don't they see that all they are doing is ruining them? Arrrrrrrgh! Oh and fuck Depp. I think your sexier than he is!

Remaking the classics isn't "ruining" them. They're still the same movie. Besides, new versions from the viewpoint of different directors and actors isn't necessarily a bad thing. Don't like the new version? Don't watch it. Bam. They do this blasphemous thing with plays all the time - run them with a different cast than the original. *gasp*

This sounds like more of a "hates johnny depp/movie purist" argument to me.

The movie was a horrid bastardization of the book, anyhow.

It is true that the 'original movie' was a rape of the book. But, it's also true that I don't think much of Depp as an actor.
My Life As A Military Wife & Motherbabyinga on July 20th, 2004 08:06 pm (UTC)
I hate nobody actually. I just grow tired of hearing and reading how sexy Depp is. In my honest opinion I don't see it. I can say that back in the Twenty One Jumpstreet days he was ok but far from sexy. I can actually name a few movies that he has done a remarkable job. Pirates Of The Carribean was one. But again that's simply my opinion and I don't expect others to go along with it.

I've seen a couple of classics remade and once again in my opinion they were done badly and for me "ruined" them. Personally I prefer the book to a movie anyday. I have instilled the desire to read the book first see the movie last in each of my children as well.

And I agree with your comment on the movie. It was horrific when compared to the book. I just don't see the need to remake the original movie. Remaking it is not going to make it any better than reading the book.

I don't care who is in it, it is a bad bad bad bad idea. Sure, it could end up being a good movie, I may even enjoy it. That doesn't mean it was a good idea. I prefer my old Willy Wonka!

Didn't see the first one.

I wanna see Depp in a prequel to Apocaplypse Now.

Depp's a good character actor. If anyone can pull off Wonka (other than Gene Hackman, of course, it would be him.
NO, RLYpornrockangel on July 20th, 2004 06:16 pm (UTC)

Yeah I mean to say Wilder.

No brain today.

Actually, I kinda like the idea of Hackman as Wonka. ;)

I keep picturing him from Superman asking Charlie if he wants some chocolate....
sayaka on July 20th, 2004 06:20 pm (UTC)
Fuck depp being attractive - he's able to play a "seems-so-normal" psychopath with a friendly side, which is what made him my second choice for the role.

My first choice would have been Marilyn Manson.
God of Thunder and Rock'n'Rollarchmage on July 20th, 2004 07:05 pm (UTC)
Feh...Depp has ONE weird character in him, and he plays it over and over again. And Manson? Yikes. Other than playing a slimeball, I can't agree with his abilities at all.
Lost TsomewhereIMEtsomewhereime on July 20th, 2004 07:27 pm (UTC)
Got to agree there but I also don't think here is a person on the planet that can do this movie justice. Unless Mr. Wilder finds a time machine.

VERY true.
sayaka on July 20th, 2004 08:29 pm (UTC)
Manson woulda been great, I think, because he cleans up so well - (I saw pictures from some event where I nearly dropped the magazine in disbeilief)... but there's something still "off."

God of Thunder and Rock'n'Roll: Dark Babyarchmage on July 20th, 2004 09:19 pm (UTC)
Perhaps, but the role of Wonka will require a very good sense of timing and character, and I just don't think he's got that.
~LisaHopephoenxbutterfly on July 20th, 2004 07:54 pm (UTC)
I'm not sure that Depp has the comedic or physical talent to pull of being Wonka. Nor do I believe he can ride the line between lovable uncle and crazy sociopath the way Wilder did. I may be a good movie but they should have don't the "Great Glass Elevator" instead of doing a re-make of a great movie.
Elli Mayhem: Dawn2ellimayhem on July 20th, 2004 09:51 pm (UTC)
I do wish that they had gone with their original casting choice of Marilyn Manson for Willy Wonka. Now that would have been a sight.

celticcross13celticcross13 on July 21st, 2004 08:47 am (UTC)
there's no way of saying
if the remake is decaying
while Johnny Depp is playing
Willy Wonka might be straying

The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last!
