For you more literary-minded types, you might appreciate a reading of A Colder War, by Charles Stross. Modern fiction, involving the Cthulhu mythos, set in the time of Ollie north, Beirut hostages, and Reagan's famous "we begin bombing in 15 minutes" slip.
It's not short, so give yourself to time to read it, but it's worth it...excellently done.
